Connecting to Your M:\drive and H:\drive from an Off-Domain Windows 10 Computer

Connecting to the Multidrive from a personal machine or an off-domain computer requires a secure connection via the campus VPN server.

Note: Connecting to your Multidrive, also mounts your home directory. You will see your home directory within the Multidrive folder and will be displayed as "mtucifs_home".
In other words, once the M:\drive is mounted the H:\ drive will also be mounted. There is nothing else you will need to do for the H:\drive to mount.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Connect to the secure campus VPN server.
  2. Click or tap the Start/Windows menu icon in the bottom left corner of your screen
(Shortcut: press and hold the Windows Key  on your keyboard and hit the E key, then skip to step 4)
    .Windows 10 start button
From the Start/Windows menu, open type “File Explorer" and the menu should change to show you something similar to this:Click on File Explorer
  3. Click the File Explorer icon to open File Explorer.
  4. With File Explorer open, locate the This PC or My Computer icon on the left hand side of the window.  Right-click this icon to bring up the options menu.
This PC icon in left side of window
  5. From the options menu choose Map network drive…
    choose Map Network Drive
  6. In the Map Network Drive window, select a drive letter you would prefer to use from the drop down.  In the folder box type: "\\multidrive.mtu.edu\multidrive". Check both boxes: Reconnect at sign-in and Connect using different credentials and click Finish.Map Network Drive
  7. A box will appear asking you to enter your network credentials.  It is very important that you include the “MTU\” before your account name.  (example: MTU\joesaccount). The password you use will be your campus ISO password, the same one you use for accessing your Gmail or MyMichiganTech.
    Enter network credentials
  8. If successful, your Multidrive will now be mounted as the drive letter chosen in step 7, and you will be able to see it from inside any application used on your computer or from Windows Explorer.
Note: Your Multidrive will only function while connected to the internet with a working secure VPN connection.  If you disconnect from the Internet or wake your device from sleep, you will likely have to reconnect the VPN first before being able to access the Multidrive.
