Electronic Recycling Information

Information Technology is committed to sustainability and the proper recycling of electronics and consumables.

We are able to recycle computers, cameras, printers, and other common electronic devices. We are also able to pick up and recycle printer cartridges and batteries. We will make recommendations and work with you through the process.

Please be aware that there is a recycling cost for some items based on charges from the company we use. Devices like CRT monitors, TVs (CRT or LCD), printers/copiers (any size) and small or large appliances (microwaves, refrigerators, etc.) have a cost associated with recycling them. When we recycle these items, we'll ask for an index to charge the recycling cost. The costs of recycling devices can be found below:

Recycling Costs (per American Recycling)

E-Recycling Costs
Item Charge
TVs $1 per inch (measured diagonally)
CRT monitors $10/ea
Printers $0.21 per pound
Large standalone copiers $25/ea
Small appliances $25/ea
Large appliances $50/ea
CPUs, towers, laptops, LCD monitors, servers, tablets, projectors, cables, keyboards, mice, switches, routers, phones, speakers, radios, access points, UPSs, etc. Free of charge

As always, please contact Information Technology if you have something you would like recycled or reused. Email IT at it-help@mtu.edu or call 906-487-1111.
