Recovering Your Password Using Secret Questions

Note: You must have already set up your secret questions to use this feature. If you have not previously set up your secret questions, please contact Michigan Tech IT at (906) 487-1111 for assistance.
  1. Go to the Michigan Tech Account Center (mylogin.mtu.edu).
  2. Enter your Michigan Tech account name in the User ID field.
  3. Click Forgot password? (Security Questions).

  4. Enter the answer to each of the secret questions that appear.
    • You can click Shuffle Questions to pick different secret questions.
    1. If you are getting a request to enter your authorization code, you must have already set up your secret questions in order to use this recovery feature.

  5. Click Submit.
  6. Review the password rules:
    • Length: Minimum 8 characters
    • Length: Maximum 128 characters
    • Letters: Minimum 2
    • Requires mixed case: Yes
    • Letters Minimum upper case: 1
    • Letters Minimum lower case: 1
    • Numbers: Minimum 1
    • User name Disallow contain: Yes
    • User name Disallow reverse or circular shift: Yes
    • Identity User ID Disallow contain: Yes
    • User ID Disallow reverse or circular shift: Yes
  7. Create and confirm your new password.

    If your password was accepted, you will see “You have successfully reset the password for the selected accounts/groups.” Click OK.
