Connecting to the MichiganTech and MichiganTechGuest Wireless Networks

To connect to wireless,  you will need an SSL-capable browser and a WiFi certified 802.11b/g/n wireless card for your laptop or mobile device.  You will need to configure your device to access one of the following wireless networks:

  • The MichiganTech WPA2 Secured Wireless Network, which is the choice for Michigan Tech students, staff, and faculty; or
  • The MichiganTechGuest Wireless Network, which is used by guests or Michigan Tech students, staff, and faculty who have devices that do not utilize WPA technology.

Connecting to the MichiganTech wireless network:

System Configuration Requirements

  • Be within the "MichiganTech" SSID wireless coverage area
  • Be a current Michigan Tech student, faculty or staff member
  • Have a computer or mobile device with an 802.11g/n-compatible wireless card, operating system, and drivers to support WPA2
  • Have a valid ISO user name and password

Connecting on a Windows device

  1. Connect to the wireless network: MichiganTech
  2. Log in with Michigan Tech ISO username and password.
  3. Open a web browser and follow instructions (from the NAC).
  • Detailed Configuration
  • Settings Security Type: IEEE 802.1x
  • Authentication SSID: MichiganTech 
  • Network Authentication: WPA2
  • Data Encryption: AES
  • EAP type: Protected EAP (PEAP)
  • Authentication Method: Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
  • Credentials: ISO Username and Password
  • CA certificate: not needed

Connect to MichiganTech on a Linux device

Connecting on an Android device

  1. Connect to the wireless network: MichiganTech
  2. Log in with Michigan Tech username and password.
  3. In your Android device's Settings, choice the Network option, and select the MichiganTech wireless network.
  • EAP type: PEAP
  • Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2
  • CA Certificate: Unspecified
  • User certificate: Unspecified
  • Identity: Enter your MTU ISO username
  • Anonymous Identity: Leave this blank
  • Domain (if required): LDAP
  • Password: Enter your MTU ISO password

Connecting to the MichiganTechGuest Wireless Network

Guest wireless is available on all Michigan Tech wireless access points. This service is available to unregistered individuals/devices.  This means that if your device is already associated with your account on the MichiganTech wireless through the steps shown above, the device will be unable to join the Guest network.

  • Be within the "MichiganTech" SSID wireless coverage area
  • Have a computer or mobile device with an 802.11g/n-compatible wireless card, operating system

Connection Instructions

  1. From the list of available networks on your device, choose the MichiganTechGuest wireless SSID. 
  2. After connecting, proceed to a web browser, and read and accept the Terms of Service Agreement to be connected to the network.
