Self-Initiated Windows 10 Upgrade

Michigan Tech’s IT department is currently upgrading computers across campus to Windows 10 before support for Windows 7 ends in 2020.

Besides having an IT staff member run the upgrade, you have the option to self-start the process at a time that is convenient for you. You can either run the upgrade immediately or schedule it to run during the overnight hours.

The upgrade will leave your applications in place, but it is possible some application settings and printers may need to be reconfigured. If after your upgrade you would like your application settings and printers restored, please reach out to IT for help.

Important notes

  • Prior to upgrading, we recommend that you back up any important files to the network or an external device.
  • Please note that this self-service upgrade option is only available with compatible PCs. If you do not see the option to perform this upgrade and have not done so already, please reach out to IT to determine the necessary next steps so that your PC can be upgraded to Windows 10.
